One of our favourite interior design projects, a Vintage Industrial home located along the East Coast of South Africa, was featured in the January 2016 issue of Home Magazine. The article also appeared in Home’s Afrikaans counterpart, Tuis Tydskrif.
Vintage Industrial Home Meets Coastal Cool
The house, an old and somewhat neglected 70’s dwelling, was in desperate need of renovation. Our clients converted the space into a more contemporary, open-plan space perfect for entertaining. With clever sourcing and selections, Design Monarchy added a distinct vintage industrial feel to the coastal home.
Home Mag asked Rose to share some tips on how to create a beautiful seaside dwelling…
Rose’s Tips on Coastal Décor:
Avoid predictable colours and textures, but keep the backdrop as neutral as possible. Off-white walls and floors with a few focal walls in darker greys will allow your furniture’s natural textures to shine.
When it comes to furniture, include as many natural wooden finishes as possible.
Explore your own style first, then allow your creative juices to flow freely to create an unpredictable interior.
Don’t be afraid to explore a mix of styles, such as shabby chic, vintage and industrial.
Keep your window treatments simple and opt for lightweight linens.
Layer rooms with quirky elements to add depth and interest. For a weathered look, add upcycled elements such as used scaffolding boards.
